We are thrilled to have received the Best Short Paper Award Second Runner Up at the 32nd European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) in Cyprus. The paper "Robot Shopping Assistants: How Emotional Versus Rational Robot Designs Affect Consumer Trust and Purchase Decisions" by Ulrich Gnewuch (University of Passau), Leon Hanschmann (KIT), Carolin Kaiser (NIM e.V.), Rene Schallner (NIM e.V.), and Alexander Maedche (KIT) describes preliminary results of a research project investigating how an emotional (vs. rational) robot design influences consumers’ trust and purchase decisions. Drawing on trust theory and human–robot interaction literature, we propose a lab experiment in which consumers interact with a large language model (LLM)-based robot shopping assistant based on the robot ‘Furhat’ and OpenAI’s GPT-4.
